A visual journey through a community-driven networking event at the University of Northern Iowa.
In partnership with the Wilson College of Business at the University of Northern Iowa, I had the privilege of capturing the essence of the Cedar Valley Career Crawl. This large-scale event was all about highlighting the importance of local community engagement and offering students a unique opportunity to connect with businesses right in their backyard.
Capturing the Event:
From the moment the event kicked off, my camera was rolling to document every meaningful moment. The Career Crawl brought together a diverse array of local businesses—from Grow Cedar Valley to SingleSpeed Brewing to VGM Group in Waterloo. Each stop on the crawl offered students a behind-the-scenes look at career opportunities and the vibrant professional landscape of the Cedar Valley.
The Power of Visual Storytelling:
My task was to weave these experiences into a compelling visual narrative. Through a combination of dynamic video content and vibrant photography, we showcased the energy and enthusiasm of students engaging with industry professionals. It was all about capturing the joy of connection and the excitement of local involvement.
Highlighting Community Impact:
A key part of the project was to feature how the Wilson College of Business is fostering relationships between students and the local economy. We highlighted businesses like Grow Cedar Valley, C.P.M., and the insights shared by young professionals at SingleSpeed Brewing. We also included a tour of VGM Group, giving viewers a glimpse into a variety of career paths. The result was a rich tapestry of local engagement, all documented in a short video and a series of photos that were shared on the university’s LinkedIn page.
This project underscored the importance of community storytelling and the role that visual media can play in connecting students to local opportunities. Being part of the Career Crawl was not only a chance to document a fantastic event but also to celebrate the vibrant spirit of the Cedar Valley and the students eager to make their mark.
